Making Room for More

Hello, VC Kids families!

We wanted to give you an update on something we talked about with our kids today—because the changes happening in our church don’t just affect adults. They affect our kids too, and we want them to understand what is happening and why.

Today, as part of our conversation with the kids, we used a simple illustration.

I asked them to think about a restaurant they really love. Several of them immediately said In-N-Out!

Then I asked: “What if you told your friends how great it was, but when they tried to go, it was so crowded there wasn’t any room for them?”

They understood immediately: We would want to make room for more people.

That’s part of what is happening at Valley Christian.

Our church is growing, and that is something we are incredibly thankful for. Our services are getting fuller, our kids’ spaces are getting fuller, and we want to continue making room for more people to come, hear God’s Word, experience Christian community, and encounter the gospel.

So what is changing?

Our church is currently preparing to move our Sunday morning services to the Redding Christian School campus.

This is not happening next Sunday, and there are still many details being worked out. Our current tentative date is November 1, but we will keep you updated as plans develop.

We didn’t want our kids to simply show up one Sunday and suddenly discover that church was somewhere different.

We want to bring them along in the process.

That means we’ll continue talking with them, letting them know what is happening, giving them opportunities to ask questions, and helping them prepare for the transition.

Some things will change. Some important things won’t.

A new location will mean some things will look and feel different.

There will be a new place to check in.

There will be different classrooms and spaces.

There may be new routines as everyone learns how things work.

But the things that matter most are staying the same.

We’ll still have many of the same leaders and teachers who know and love your kids.

We’ll still open God’s Word together.

We’ll still worship, learn, laugh, connect, and grow together.

And we’ll still be VC Kids.

We’re also planning to create more videos and resources to help families know what to expect. One idea we’re working on is a walkthrough video of the Redding Christian School campus so that before your family ever arrives, you can see where to park, where to check in, where your kids will go, and what Sunday mornings will look like.

The kids had some great questions.

One of their biggest questions was essentially:

“Will I still be able to come?”

And that gets right to the heart of why we are doing this.

Yes!

We are making this change because we want to create more room, not less. We want our kids to know that they belong here, and we want there to be room for their friends, their neighbors, and other families who may come in the future.

We also reminded them that we don’t know exactly what every step of the future will look like.

This move may be temporary. It may become part of a longer-term solution. Eventually, the church may build additional facilities. We may try some things that work really well, and we may discover some things that need to change.

And that’s okay.

We told the kids something we want all of us to remember:

Transitions can be uncomfortable. Change can be hard. But we can do hard things.

We can walk through this together—day by day and step by step.

Why are we doing all of this?

Because we want to continue making room for more people to hear the gospel.

We want more children to know Jesus.

We want more families to find community.

We want people to hear and grow through God’s Word.

And we believe God can grow us through this process too.

We also know that not everyone will feel the same way about every change. Some people will be excited. Some may be uncertain. Some may need time to adjust.

That’s another reason we want to communicate openly with both parents and kids throughout the process.

Please talk with your kids about what they heard today. Ask them what they remember, what questions they have, and how they’re feeling about the changes ahead.

And we’ll continue doing the same when they’re with us.
