Hello, VC Kids families!
We’re continuing our series:
FIVE PROMISES OF GOD I CAN HOLD ON TO
God saves me.
God stays with me.
God loves me.
God forgives me.
God welcomes me.
This week, we went a little deeper into God loves me by teaching the kids three important words:
FULLY. FREELY. FOREVER.
God loves me fully, freely, and forever.
We even have hand motions to help the kids remember it.
Ask your kids to show you!
And just a little warning:
“Freely” takes two hands. 😄
OUR MEMORY VERSE
We’re also working on Romans 5:8:
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
— Romans 5:8
This verse helps us see just how incredible God’s love is.
God’s love isn’t something we earn.
He showed His love for us by sending Jesus for us.
WHAT DID WE LEARN THIS WEEK?
Steve taught our Bible lesson this week about:
JESUS FEEDING THE 5,000
Here’s something you can do at home:
Instead of simply asking your kids…
“What did you learn?”
or
“Did you have fun?”
…try asking them some more specific questions.
For example:
What do you remember about Jesus feeding the 5,000?
How many people did Jesus feed—not including the women and children?
What was something you learned today?
What was something funny that happened?
What are the Five Promises of God?
Can you name one of the promises?
What does it mean that God loves you fully, freely, and forever?
Can you show me the hand motions?
You don’t have to ask every question.
Mix it up.
The goal is simply to help your kids stop, think, remember, and talk about what they are learning.
WHY ASKING QUESTIONS MATTERS
I’ve been learning more about this myself through a book called Make It Stick.
One of the ideas discussed in the book is called retrieval practice.
The basic idea is simple:
When we have to reach back into our memory and retrieve something we learned, it helps strengthen that learning.
So asking your child specific questions about what they learned at church isn’t just making conversation.
It can actually help reinforce what they are learning.
Instead of only asking:
“What did you learn?”
Try giving them something specific to retrieve:
“What were the five promises?”
“What happened when Jesus fed the 5,000?”
“What does Romans 5:8 tell us about God’s love?”
Sometimes having to stop, think, and remember is part of how learning sticks.

It includes some simple questions and ideas to help move the conversation beyond:
“Did you have fun?”
There’s nothing wrong with having fun.
We certainly hope your kids are engaged and enjoy being at VC Kids!
But our goal is bigger than simply giving them a fun experience.
We want them to LEARN.
We want them to GROW.
We want what they are learning to become part of their LIVES.

Ultimately, our goal at VC Kids is to partner with you to help kids:
KNOW • GROW • GO
